Humboldt Redwoods State Park has opportunities for most types of camping. There are developed campgrounds, environmental camps, a group camp, a group horse camp, a hike and bike camp, and trail camps. |
| Overview of Camping Facilities |
Developed Campgrounds The developed campgrounds (Burlington, Hidden Springs, Albee Creek) are popular. Each campsite has a fire ring, picnic table and food locker. Treated water is nearby. There are level areas for pitching tents. There are sites designated for RVs, trailers, and tents. Campgrounds have coin-operated showers and flush toilets. Firewood is available for sale. Dogs are allowed if they are kept on a leash and under owner's control at all times. Dogs are not allowed on trails in the park.
There is no dump station for RVs located in the park. Campers may use the dump station at Benbow Lake State Recreation Area, about 30 miles south on Highway 101. Keep your camping receipt and present it at Benbow. If you are heading north, there is a dump station in Fortuna at the Texaco gas station. Take the Kenmar exit and turn right at the bottom of the offramp. Turn left at Fortuna Blvd. The Texaco station will be on your right in the Redwood Village shopping center. Environmental camps Environmental campgrounds are slightly more primitive than our developed campgrounds. The campsites are located 200 to 500 yards from the parking area. Each site has a fire ring, picnic table and food locker. There are no showers. The water must be treated and there are chemical toilets. No pets are allowed at the environmental camps. Marin Garden Club Grove Hike and Bike Camp The Hike and Bike Camp is for campers arriving on foot or bicycle. It is open year-round. Campsites have picnic tables, fire rings and food lockers. There is a restroom, but no showers. Trail camps Trail camps have untreated water and chemical
toilets. No pets, horses, or open fires are allowed in the trail camps. Located in the
backcountry areas of the park, these camps provide a true wilderness experience. Some
hikes are strenuous and involve long uphill stretches. Other routes are easier. Williams Grove Group Camp The group camp will accommodate up to 100 campers. There are two sites. One will hold 60 people and the other will hold 40 people. The camp has barbecues, tables and restrooms, but no showers. The campground is located in redwoods along the Eel River. There is also a group picnic area here which may be reserved for large groups. Cuneo Creek Group Horse Camp Cuneo Creek Group Horse Camp is located eight miles west of the Avenue of the Giants on the Mattole Road. There are fire rings, picnic tables, treated water, flush toilets and pay showers. There are corrals and water troughs for the horses. The camp provides excellent access to numerous roads and trails for horseback riding. There are sites for group camping which must be reserved. A few individual sites are available as well. |
