Hidden Springs Campground is located on a hillside covered in a mixed forest of tan oak, Douglas fir, redwood, and aromatic California bay trees. The growth of understory vegetation provides a natural screening between campsites, giving campers a feeling of privacy. Campers can relax at the river, a short fifteen-minute walk away. Water level and sand bar locations at the river vary from year to year. Usually, there is a good swimming hole here. The river is always a good place for wading on hot summer days.

Frequently, visitors ask where the springs are. Although there are no hot springs in the area, there are numerous natural seeps where groundwater comes to the surface. While trying to locate the water source for the campground, the workers had difficulty finding a good spring, thus they named the campground Hidden Springs. The few small springs are best seen in the early season. By the end of summer, most have dried up.

Travel directions to Hidden Springs Campground:
  • From the south: From Highway 101, take the Myers Flat exit. At the intersection with the Avenue of the Giants, turn left. Drive ¾ mile on the Avenue of the Giants to Hidden Springs Campground.
    • Distance from San Francisco: 227 miles
  • From the north: From Highway 101, take the Myers Flat exit. Turn left at the intersection at the bottom of the offramp. Drive through town on the Avenue of the Giants and continue ¾ mile past the town to Hidden Springs Campground.
    • Distance from Eureka: 50 miles
  • From the Visitor Center: Drive about four miles south on the Avenue of the Giants. Drive through the town of Myers Flat and continue ¾ mile past the town to Hidden Springs Campground.

Firewood: No wood may be gathered in the park. Firewood is available for sale at the campground.

Activities:

Summer activities include evening campfire programs, guided nature walks, and Junior Ranger programs for children ages 7 to 12 years. Check the schedule when you arrive at the park.

Animal life: Raccoon, gray fox, striped skunk, spotted skunk, black bear, coyote, mountain lion, black-tailed deer, brush rabbit, deer mouse, Steller's jay.

Hidden Springs Campground is open mid-May to mid-October. There are no hookups in the campground. Reservations can be made by calling Reserve America at (800) 444-7275.
