The Veterans for Peace, Chapter 022 sponsored a Wage Peace Cafe on Saturday 16 May 1998 at 7p.m. at the John Haynes Memorial Veterans Hall, Garberville. The event, a benefit for the Lunar Tics, Julia Butterfly's support group, started with the viewing of the Luna Tree Sit Video, followed by our own Dan Fortson, who warmed up the crowd with his original music. Robert Parker sang his remake of the popular Paul Simon tune that he renamed "Me and Julia up in the tree sit." Julia Butterfly Hill called in and spoke with the audience. Then the headliners Peter Childs and Chris McCurdy wowed the crowd with their always pleasing acoustic music. The evening ended with the Lunar Tics auctioning off a broken pager that fell (or was tossed?) from 180 feet.
