The Garberville Veterans Association Ceremonial Honor Guard is made up of veterans from the Garberville Veterans of Foriegn Wars Post 6354, American Legion Post 494 and AM Vets Post 11. When the occasional need arises we are very grateful to be able to include in our attendance, members of the Shelter Cove, Weott and Fortuna Posts.
The Ceremonial Honor Guard performs two annual "Twenty One Gun Salute" ceremonies in honor of fallen comrades.

Silhouettes of some members of the guard are shown firing a volley in the Briceland Cemetery on Veteran's Day '97.
Others are shown firing a volley, at the ceremony in the Garberville Cemetery on Memorial Day 1998.
The honor guard was called to Shelter Cove
to memorialize 'Baatan Death March' survivor and local post member Mario Machi. In later years, Mario, who helped create the Shelter Cove Veterans Memorial, was often found sitting there, with his ready smile and friendly wave. His far-searching look toward the ocean was evidence that he was waiting for the last of his fishermen to return.
On Memorial Day 2001 the Ceremonial Honor Guard saluted all fallen veterans of all wars. We placed flags in Old Harris, Bull Creek, Garberville, and Briceland cemeteries. 21 gun salutes were fired in Garberville, Briceland and at the veterans memorial in Shelter Cove.
To demonstrate respect for the service of a fallen comrade the Garberville Veterans Association has performed a 21 gun salute in honor of the following comrades, heroes to whom we owe our freedoms.
