It was inspiring to come to your Kosovo protest evening in April. I'm in the process of finding out about protests over here in the United (Magic) Kingdom : missed one on May 8th in London, sadly, but there will be others. Peace will prevail.

Editor - Letters - PB Post - Sir:
The media and public daily question why two bright young men with the ability to "go anywhere" became so disaffected with society that they went on a no win - dead end - shooting spree Tuesday, April 20 in Littleton, Colorado killing 13 classmates, a teacher and then themselves.
The questions seem to revolve about the accessability of guns yet these youths also deployed many home made bombs. And if guns and bombs were not available, a suicide mission with as many deaths could have been done with a car driven into a crowd. Should then access to cars be denied to teenagers?
While all beat around the bush evading the real truth, the killings and likelihood of more continues until the real causes are addressed. And the real causes are the fact that rules of morality - ethics - the respect for the sanctity of all life are not now being taught in most homes and have been banned by law from being taught in any public school on the false basis of a "wall between religion and the state"!
Children today grow up in an uncontrolled and permissive society and see their adults disregard any law that displeases them. And they are exposed to daily uncurbed violence on the streets and violence in the newspapers and on every tv newscast. And when they see President Clinton, his advisors and his military leaders proudly displaying laser guided missiles killing innocent people and destroying the civilian targets day after day, what can one expect the children to believe in?
The lesson they get is that violence and killing your "enemy" is legitimate and that there are no personal consequences except your enemy is dead - irrespective of whom your "enemy" is! Proof of this is that Clinton's first public statement about the massacre in Littleton was that "violence is not the way to settle differences"! Well - hello there Mr. Clinton et al!
Sincerely, John W. Willmott At 0912 EDST April 23, 1999

Please take a look at this site and tell others about it. Its about the men o0f the Merchant Marine who just won their recognition for the full WW II period. It took them over 10 yrs. & 10 mos. from the 1988 date when they were frist given the wrong date on their original Veterans Status, but presistence does prevail. And the phrase which says, "With Liberty & Justice for ALL" means just that. On Nov.11,1998 HR-4110 was signed into law. It is now Public Law No. 105-368
WE ARE EQUAL VETERANS' and the VFW had better learn one thing for sure. I will not get off their back until they obey the laws of the land according to their Congressional Charter of may 28,1936. I urge ALL citizens to read it on my site and let them know what they, the very people who this Charter was given for, DO JUST THAT. Let them know wherte you stand on this issue. We the Merchant Seamen were responsable for getting most Veterans of all services where they were going and back again. Plus took them everything they needed all over the globe, come hell or high water, and for them to turn the other way in not allowing us to be a member of their unit is most certainly a disgraceful and shameful action on their parts. Had it not been for we of the merchant marine they would NEVER had become Veterans themselves.

INTRODUCTION TO THE AUGUSTA GROUP
The Augusta Group is a loose association (no dues required) of military retiree veterans from Augusta, Georgia, encouraged and supported by others from across the nation. Our purpose is to educate and persuade our national leaders to honor the confirmed and unequivocal commitments made to military personnel who answered the call to serve our nation in time of all-out war and who assumed often unpopular responsibilities so that the cold war could be won.
The Problem: Since prior to World War II military personnel were promised, in exchange for at least twenty years of honorable service at less than prevailing civilian wages, no-cost medical care for themselves and eligible dependents after retirement for the rest of their lives. For years, monthly military pay slips included a notation that future free medical care was to be considered as deferred compensation when comparing military pay with civilian wages. And, until recently, the United States government honored that commitment through medical care at Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs).
Today, with the down-sizing of the military, medical care at MTFs is no longer available to military retirees. As a result, they are the only Federal employees who lose their employer provided health care when they reach the age of 65.
Convention to Educate Congress by Mail (CECM)
As a follow-on to the Convention to Educate Congress (CEC) event, held 22 September 1998, in Washington DC, which was organized by the Class Act Group Lawsuit (Ft. Walton Beach FL) and the Coalition Of Retired Military Veterans (Sumter SC), and supported by, NAUS, TROA, TREA, the Augusta Group, and other Veterans Organizations, and as a prelude to the next CEC event ........
We hereby propose that on 31 December 1998 every retired military veteran, their family members and friends send a letter by regular mail to: their 2 Senators, their Congressperson, the Secretary of Defense, and as many of the major news organizations as possible.
Help Us!!: The Augusta Group is committed to securing public and congressional support to resolve this deplorable situation.
For more infomation and sample letters go to The Augusta Group Web Site

It's a little odd to find your own name on a Veteran's Hall booking page!
I was born in New Zealand, but my father was born in Somerset England, but settled here after WW2, having been shipped here on a hospital ship after two years in a Jap prison camp in Hong Kong.
Cheers to all of you, have a drink to John Haynes for me, I certainly will!
